The Peruvian territory was home to one of the oldest ancient cultures in the world. The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century. After achieving independence in 1821, Peru has undergone periods of political unrest and fiscal crisis as well as periods of stability and economic upswing.
Peru is, as of 2011, one of the world’s fastest-growing economies owing to the economic boom experienced during the 2000s. According to 2010 data, 31.3% of its total population is poor, including 9.8% that lives in poverty.
Steve Hopkins invited me to go with him to this nation that he has poured his heart and soul into. It was an honor to teach a conference among the Quechua’s and minister at Cathedral of Faith, the main church of Lima.
